Property and Application
Disodium EDTA is tasteless, odorless or slightly salty white or milky white crystal or granular powder, odorless and tasteless. It is
soluble in water and extremely difficult to dissolve in ethanol.
Disodium EDTA is an amino-carboxylic acid with six functional groups whose characteristic reactions enable them to form
complexes. It is used as an organic chelating agent for cosmetic formulations. It can sequester undesirable metal ions in cosmetic
preparations, preventing precipitation of the salts responsible for water hardness and protecting against rancidity and color changes
caused by heavy metal ions.
Disodium EDTA can prevent discoloration, deterioration, turbidity and oxidative loss of vitamin C caused by metals, and can also
improve the oxidation resistance of oils and fats.
Disodium EDTA protects the integrity of skincare products from undergoing unwanted consistency changes, pH changes, odor
changes, or texture changes. In addition, when binding with calcium, iron, or magnesium, disodium EDTA results in enhanced
foaming and cleaning abilities. It is also used commonly in skincare formulations as a co-preservative.
